DESCRIPTION:eccentric (an-) archives\nhistories of experimental\, fantastic
\, and anarchic archives\n\nIn the second anarchival talk we will hear fro
m researcher & DIYer Florian\nCramer. During the first talk Whose Side Are
You On? with Lilah V. from the Jose\nMaria Sison Legacy Foundation we dov
e into the question of for whom is the\narchive? We considered a brief his
tory of archiving as a science given life\nthrough revolutions of the past
and how archives can be used as a weapon to\nadvance revolutionary aspira
tions today. During this talk we approach the\nconcept of the anarchive fr
om a viewpoint of artistic practice and collection.\nArchives are often se
en as institutional\, preserving (also in the sense of\nconservative) and
focused on canonical heritage. Often archives are also the\nopposite of th
at: eccentric\, chaotic and/or anarchic collections\, often set up\nby peo
ple who are obsessed with a certain topic and who give it an idiosyncratic
	\nsystem. Think of record collections\, eccentric libraries\, a hoarder’s
apartment\nor collections of subcultural production. They all raise questi
ons as: what is\nthe difference between a personal composition of objects\
, a collection or an\narchive? When does it become important to document h
istory by means of objects?\n\nDuring his lecture\, Florian will dive into
these questions with the audience\,\nwith examples such as the bookstore
and later library of the Mexican-Dutch\nartist Ulises Carrión\, the Black
Ark from dub producer Lee “Scratch” Perry\, but\nalso problematic cases su
ch as the Wunderkammen during the colonial period.\n\nabout Florian Cramer
\n\nPractice-oriented research professor at Willem de Kooning Academy + wr
iter and\nDIY media maker since the postpunk-era of the '80s. Associate me
mber of the\nPearl River Delta-based Display Distribute collective\, runni
ng the Rotterdam\nRelay Center of its volunteer-run global courier network
LIGHT LOGISTICS.\nRecently\, he donated his 100kg heavy zine archive abou
t subcultural currents of\nNeoism and Mail Art to the archive of the Unive
	rsity of Dundee in Scotland.
